Hobo HQ:

Did you know I have a playlist of tech videos from my van build?

I also have a playlist of just travel videos if you don’t like all the tech stuff:

I left the rat race to live full time on the road and so can you! The key to freedom is to lower your expenses. In my former life, I managed a company that struggled to stay out of the red. This is where I learned to hone my frugality skills and use them to my own advantage by becoming a minimalist at home. The biggest expense we all have living in a sticks and bricks is our rent or mortgage. We work most of our adult lives to make a bank or landlord / landlady rich! With ever increasing real estate prices and stagnant wages the cost of living has skyrocketed. Many can barely make ends meet and live paycheck to paycheck. You can stop the madness by thinking outside the box and joining this growing movement of full-timers that enjoy van-dwelling or RV living. If you dream about a life of travel you can do it incredibly cheap just by downsizing your lifestyle into a RV or van “tiny house” and becoming mobile.

In this series, I go from a home in the Los Angeles hills packed full of stuff and owning two cars to full-timing in a Roadtrek campervan in less than 6 months. I buy an old camper van on Craigslist and deck it out just like home with all kinds of technology to make life comfortable on the road. I hope to encourage those that think they “can’t do it” by showing how it CAN be done by planning carefully and taking baby steps.

Would have had this up yesterday but dealing with 3G upload speeds here at camp in northern Idaho then YouTube demonetized it for some reason (???). Let me know what your favorite part of the video is in the comments below.

Hi Tom, I rewound the video 5 times, at the entrance to Mt Rushmore, even with your subtitles, I still could not understand what she said, and I'm English? Safe travels πŸ˜€πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Mt Rushmore looks the same–wow, that brings back memories. However, that whole 'tourist' area has changed a lot in the last 35 years. Glad you were able to get a clear view, it's an impressive bit of dynamite (explosive, not exclamatory) sculpturing.

Lovely area! Thanks for another great vid 😁

Do you think its possible for a Lazy Daze 24’ to get up to the wrinkly spot? Or….is there a camping spot near that a LD could park, and an electric bike and tent got up to the wrinkly camp site?

  8. Darrell Wampler says

I really like Mt Rushmore. I would love to go there someday! Thanks for taking me!

Just joined the Patreon side. Thanks for your hard work. The only thing that is hard to watch, is when you go fast speed or KITT car speed. Back in NC or SC videos it was so fast, I was close to getting eye seizures, I had to close my eyes. So, its much better now. I still find that's its probably 2X too fast. Maybe I am in the minority, but I like to process the road/scenery. Of course, this means "fast mode" would be twice as long, but I see no problem with that. I know everybody is trying shorter videos is better, but I think watchable content is better. To me I think creators obsess over short videos, but if you have good content, a few minutes more, seems no problem. To me its desired. Its nice to make dinner with a nice video on. Sorry for the long comment, hard to be brief. I have enjoyed the KITT car music, Six Million dollar Man music, etc., so I get it. Hope I make some sense, do what you can or maybe not. Thanks again.

I enjoy all aspects of your video but seeing your visit to Mount Rushmore was awesome, it's some place I've been fascinated with but will not see in real life. ThanksπŸ‘πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Sounds like you were in Compton. You need to find something secluded!(1st. 2 or so minutes of clip). All this is all good, though. Thanks for the post!..

One summer when I was a teen, my family spent a summer living in a cabin between Keystone and Hill City, about 3 miles from Keystone. My Dad had a job that required lots of travel and we were not going to be there more than 3 months. He tortured my sisters and I by keeping the TV packed so we did a lot of exploring around the area. One of the best summers I remember. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

If she had to ask if you were 62 or older why not tell her, yes I am.

This is good to know, I really thought there would have been more camping spots.

I think early ice cream was more like what we would now consider frozen custard. It's the egg yolks that give it that kind of creamy, buttery taste. Really interesting tour, thank you!

Hello, wow I know that feeling chasing the internet. We have three different providers on three different devices whilst we were away and sometimes did not have internet nor phone. We will all just have to be excited when you can upload. The burger and chips look fantastic. Gosh that is annoying having to pay ten dollars for parking but the It was really worth it…Wow thank you for taking us. I am making sure to watch the adds in full so I hope that helps…Icecream looks yummy. Gosh it does look cold. Where you parked would be perfect for one night. Stay safe and pat Odin for me or scratch…..hugs

    Nice thumbnail of George Washington

To grow your channel, have you thought about covering Star Trek conventions, maybe even some gamer stuff. I watched Star Trek Next Gen., did not go further than that with the next series, I do not even know the names. So, I am not really a Trekkie or a Gamer. I do not even own 1 gaming machine, I have enough addictions like drinking, women, and youtube. (Just kidding, but some truth). You could cover them with Billy, if available, maybe funny. Anyway just an idea, to get the word out about your channel.

  24. Bam Bambam says

Out of one rat race and into another. Thanks for the video. I've always wanted to see Mt Rushmore. Now, …not so much. Geez it looks like freekin Disney Rushmore. Haley's West baby… that's where I'm going!! Thanks for all the tips!….and even more tshirt material material, "…since I'm here, maybe I should just get it over with." Ha! Gotta love it! You think like me Tom! I love your videos!
